Phones that support eSIM
Use this page as a starting point, then check your own phone. DataRoamr can't check your phone's eSIM support or carrier lock for you, and a model name on its own isn't proof: the same model can be sold without eSIM in some countries or by some carriers.
Your phone needs all three:
- A model with eSIM. See the lists below.
- eSIM on your exact phone. Where it was bought, and which carrier sold it, can matter.
- No carrier lock. A phone locked to one carrier usually can't use an eSIM from another provider.
The quickest way to confirm points 2 and 3 is on the phone itself: check your phone in Settings.

Apple iPhone
Apple lists eSIM on iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR and later iPhone models.
Exceptions Apple names:
- Bought in mainland China: Apple says only iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, iPhone 17e and iPhone Air support eSIM there.
- Bought in Hong Kong or Macao: some models are made for two physical nano-SIM cards. Check in Settings that your iPhone offers Add eSIM or Add Cellular Plan.
Carrier lock: open Settings → General → About. If Carrier Lock shows No SIM restrictions, your iPhone is unlocked. Apple says only your current carrier can unlock an iPhone.

Samsung Galaxy
Samsung publishes its list per country, and the lists don't always match. Samsung Australia's list (updated 21 September 2026) includes these phones:
- Galaxy S: S20, S20+, S20 Ultra · S21, S21+, S21 Ultra · S22, S22+, S22 Ultra · S23, S23+, S23 Ultra, S23 FE · S24, S24+, S24 Ultra, S24 FE · S25, S25+, S25 Ultra, S25 Edge, S25 FE · S26, S26+, S26 Ultra, S26 FE
- Galaxy Z: Galaxy Fold · Z Flip, Z Flip 5G · Z Fold2 · Z Fold3, Z Flip3 · Z Fold4, Z Flip4 · Z Fold5, Z Flip5 · Z Fold6, Z Flip6 · Z Fold7, Z Flip7, Z Flip7 FE · Z Fold8, Z Fold8 Ultra, Z Flip8
- Galaxy Note: Note20, Note20 Ultra
- Galaxy A: A36 5G, A55 5G, A56 5G
- Galaxy XCover: XCover7, XCover7 Pro
Exceptions Samsung names:
- Country of origin: Samsung says eSIM may not be supported depending on the country your phone comes from, even for models on these lists.
- Galaxy A models: Samsung India lists the A35 and A36 with eSIM only in Europe, North America and Korea, and the A54 only in Europe, North America, Korea and Japan. Treat any Galaxy A phone as "check your own phone".
To check your exact phone: on the phone, open Settings → Connections → SIM manager and look for Add eSIM (menu names vary by software version). Or find your model on Samsung's support site and open Spec → Network/Bearer: under SIM Size, look for Embedded-SIM.

Google Pixel
Google lists eSIM by model, and for older models by where and how the phone was bought:
- Pixel 4 and later: Google says all phones work with eSIM.
- Pixel 3a: not if bought with Verizon service or in Japan.
- Pixel 3: not if bought in Australia, Taiwan or Japan, or with service from a US or Canadian carrier other than Sprint and Google Fi.
- Pixel 2: only phones bought with Google Fi service.
- Pixel (2016): no eSIM.
Google's specification pages add for current models that eSIM is carrier dependent and "not supported by all carriers or in all countries".
To check your exact phone: open Settings → Network & internet → SIMs and look for Add SIM with an option to set up an eSIM.

Other phone makers
Some phones from other makers support eSIM, but it often depends on the exact model number and the country it was sold in. We haven't listed them because we couldn't find an official list from each maker to point you to (last checked 13 October 2026).
To check a phone from another maker:
- Look up your exact model number on the maker's official website and check the specifications for eSIM or embedded SIM.
- On the phone, open the SIM or mobile network settings and look for an option to add an eSIM. Menu names vary by maker.
- If you bought the phone from a carrier or on a contract, ask that carrier whether it's unlocked.
Phones locked to a carrier
Some phones sold by a carrier only work with that carrier until it unlocks them. A locked phone usually can't use an eSIM from another provider, including DataRoamr. Only the carrier that sold the phone can unlock it.
- iPhone: check Carrier Lock in Settings → General → About (see the iPhone section).
- Android: there's no standard setting for this. If you bought the phone from a carrier or on a contract, ask that carrier.
No phone matches “”
Your phone may still support eSIM. Check it in Settings, or look up its exact model on the maker's website.
Still not sure?
Don't buy until you've checked. How to check your phone in Settings shows the steps for iPhone and Android.
